The A-word
In my last post I talked about the idea of originality, imitation, deconstruction and the process rather the goal of creating something unexpected. I'm not convinced that we can create something original. But it hit me. I was looking for another word.
Not quite original. Not quite deconstructed stolen goods. But an honest dash of the self added into the mix.
We all have fingerprints. We are not original in that way. But we all can be individually identified by our fingerprints. An authentic presentation of our peculiar, special self.
Next time when you walk past a reflection of yourself, notice that you have all (or most) of the characteristics needed to be qualified as a human like any other. But the way your hair do it's thing on your head, the rhythm of your walk, the way your favourite colors bring out the tones in your skin, how your hands move when you talk, the way you sound your words, the order you like to dress in the morning, how you like your toast, your favourite sleeping position, even the very distinct way you smell... that is all you and only you. A walking, breathing, living, thinking authentic work of art that took years to create. And yes, it's all about the process.
